Car Lockout Service — Locked Keys in Your Car
Keys on the seat, doors locked, engine maybe still running. Stay with the car, call, and a technician comes to you.
A lockout is an entry job, nothing more
If the key is inside the car and works fine, no cutting or programming is involved. The whole job is getting a door open without damaging the weather seal, the paint, the glass or the wiring in the door card. That is a tools-and-technique problem, and it is the most common call we take.
Lockouts happen in the least convenient places: a Publix parking lot with groceries thawing, a beach lot at dusk, an office garage after the attendant has gone home. Give dispatch the exact location — level and row in a garage, nearest cross street on the road — so the technician does not lose time circling.
How the technician gets in
Entry is chosen based on the vehicle, not a single method used on everything. On most cars a wedge creates a small controlled gap at the top of the door frame and a long reach tool operates the interior handle or lock button. On vehicles where that would stress the frame, the technician works through the lock or the window channel instead. Nothing is drilled and no glass is broken on a standard lockout.
- Non-destructive entry as the default approach
- Method chosen per vehicle rather than one-size-fits-all
- Proof the vehicle is yours is requested before entry
- Doors, seals and interior trim left as they were found
Situations we get called for most
Engine left running
Common with remote start and push-to-start cars. Tell dispatch — it moves the call up the queue.
Child or pet inside
Call 911 first. Then call us. Do not wait on a locksmith if anyone inside is in distress.
Keys locked in the trunk
Trunk access is a different approach than a door and sometimes goes through the cabin.
Fob stopped responding
If the doors will not unlock with the fob in your hand, that may be a dead battery rather than a lockout.
What to do while you wait
- Stay near the car if you are somewhere safe — the technician needs you there for identification
- Do not try coat hangers or slim jims; modern doors have wiring and airbag sensors inside the door card
- If the engine is running, keep an eye on the fuel gauge and mention it on the phone
- Have your ID and something linking you to the vehicle ready
