Car Key Replacement & Spare Keys
Worn, cracked or down to one key. Replacing it now costs less hassle than replacing it after it fails in a parking lot.
This is the page for when a key still exists
Replacement is the planned version of the job. The blade is chipped, the fob buttons no longer respond, the rubber has split and the electronics are exposed, or there is simply one key for a car two people share. Nothing is stranded, so the work can be scheduled rather than dispatched as an emergency — and because a working key or the vehicle data is available, the process is more straightforward than originating a key from scratch.
The single most useful thing you can do is not wait until you are down to zero. Households running a car on a last remaining key are one dropped keyring away from a much bigger job. A second key made today is the cheapest insurance against that.
Key types we replace
Basic metal key
Older vehicles with no chip. Cut and handed over, no pairing needed.
Transponder key
A chip in the head talks to the immobiliser; the new key must be taught to the car.
Remote head key
Blade plus integrated lock and unlock buttons in one housing.
Smart key / proximity fob
Push-to-start vehicles. The fob is paired electronically and there is often a hidden emergency blade.
When a shell swap is enough
Not every damaged key needs new electronics. If the case has cracked but the board and chip inside are intact, the internals can sometimes move to a fresh shell, which is a smaller job than a full replacement. If the board itself is water-damaged — a real risk in a coastal climate — the electronics have to be replaced and reprogrammed. The technician can tell which one it is by opening the key.
